Pre/Post Session Care

PREPARING FOR YOUR SESSION

Please consider the following as you prepare for your session:

❏  For One-to-One sessions, you may bring your own bottle of water if you would like but a glass of fresh iced water will be waiting for you. 

❏  For Group sessions, bring your own bottle of water, mat (if needed), blanket, pillow and, if desired, eye mask.

❏  Drinking plenty of water beginning with the day before your session and throughout the day of your session will be helpful.  Your body is generally comprised of about 70% water and it is beneficial to be well hydrated before a session due to the sound-conductive properties of water.  

❏  Refraining from caffeinated drinks, alcoholic beverages or indulging in recreational products before and after your session will help you to be fully present and more easily relax.          

❏  Maintaining generally 2 to 4 hours between your last meal and your session will allow for the digestion process.  If you must eat before your session, please consider eating lighter foods finishing at least one hour before your session.  You will benefit most if your body is not busy with digestion.

❏  Dress comfortably and wear clean comfortable clothing, such as yoga or workout clothing, and nothing too binding around the waist.  If possible, refrain from wearing apparel containing metal.  Bring a pair of warm socks to wear during the session.

❏  Refrain from wearing anything containing an aroma, including tobacco, as some scents can be highly disruptive.

❏  It is best to remove any metal, jewelry and computerized watches prior to the session so consider keeping your valuables at home.  Alternatively, you can place them on a table next to you during the session.  Also consider turning off all electronic devices, or set to them to vibrate, to prevent disruptions during the session.

❏  ❏  ❏  Most importantly, set an intention for the session.  Your intention can be as simple as “I want to relax,” or “I love when I am relaxed”.  It can also be more profound.  For example, “I want to release [fill in the blank],” or “I love when I am free of [fill in the blank] and feeling peaceful.”  In addition to setting an intention, I also suggest to repeat your favorite affirmation.

My personal favorite affirmation is:  “I am worthy. I am whole. I am love. I AM AMAZING!”

POST SESSION EXPERIENCE

Everyone is different and will have a unique experience to the various sound therapy sessions.  You may find yourself feeling clearer, calmer, more relaxed, more self-aware and energetic.  It is recommended that you recognize how you are feeling just prior to the session (physically, mentally and emotionally) and compare these feelings to how you are feeling after each session.  With each passing day, continue to recall your sound therapy session and recognize the positive benefits you felt from your experience.


POST SESSION CARE

Hydrotherapy:  Hydrotherapy is optimum after a sound therapy session.  Drinking plenty of water and herbal teas after a session may be helpful, and soaking in a mineral or Epsom salt bath for 20 minutes minimum may support the body in detoxifying or releasing any physical components from the blockages released from the energy field. 

Grounding:  In climates that permit, it is highly recommended to spend some time walking barefoot outside in the grass or soil after your session.  Connecting the bare feet to the earth may help to ground your energy, drawing excess energy down and out of the body, and drawing the earth’s negatively charged ions up into the body.  This helps create a state of electromagnetic equilibrium in the system that can potentially relieve a wide variety of discomforts. Homework:  Consider jotting down or journaling a few notes after your session. Becoming more well-balanced usually requires a change in perception and/or action of some kind or another.  Simply becoming more aware of our habitual subconscious behaviors, becoming aware of ourselves from the place of ‘the witness,’ broadens the trajectory of our life possibilities.  Hence, we become more free to choose healthy and self-supporting behaviors.
